Upgrade to IVY or stick with my Q9450@ 3.6GHz

Current system specs:

Asus Rampage Formula x48 Motherboard
Q9450 @ 3.64GHz
Corsair Dominator DDR2 1066 CL 5-5-5-15 @ 2.16V
2x 4870s in crossfire
Samsung 830 series 120GB SSD
1920x1080 samsung monitor

My main reason for this post was whether my CPU would bottleneck a 660ti or a gtx 670. If it does then is ivy bridge worth upgrading despite my current system specs? By no means my system is slow but just wondering because I'd like to play games like BF3 and Crysis 2 on ultra settings @ 1080p and a 660 ti would be perfect.

Best solution

I would stick with your current CPU, RAM, motherboard. It's not worth the upgrade money.

I would get a 7950 over a 660 ti. It beats down the 660 ti for the price with the bigger bandwidth and VRAM.

I have my Q9450 @ 3.0GHz and I don't plan on upgrading until either Haswell or Broadwell hits the streets.

It is still more than adequate for games and it should not bottleneck the GTX 660 or 670.

yeah i guess i'll just upgrade the gpu first because that's the limiting factor in actual games and im pretty sure a Core 2 Quad @ 3.6GHz paired with DDR2 1066 Dominator ram will be sufficient to power the card. i hope to get a few more years with my current system with my upcoming gtx 670. thanks for your help
