Best video card for diablo 3

Hello, I was curious which would be the best gfx card to run diablo 3 on high settings, and i'm looking to buy a new power supply around 400 watts. I'm currently running a geforce 9600 gt 1 gb ram, but it's lag spiking badly and idk if its my card or my power supply(since my supply wont turn on my computer unless i press the on button 20 times). would a 1gb ddr5 be better than 2gb dd3 ram? thanks

edit: not wanting to spend more than $150 on a new graphics card, but hoping i can run d3 on high settings in the next expansion ( dont want to keep buying cards) i'm also on a 24 inch widescreen monitor if that has anything to do with it and im not using a hdmi also if that has anything to do with it thanks

  1. Make sure your case supports the power supply size, have space for the GPU and your case is not low profile.

    I would go with these:

  2. a 7770 might be your best bet
  3. My 550ti 2gb version with a slight OC from EVGA played D3 very smoothly. I did not used the shadows and AA because I never do lol the rest was on. I'm tempted to try it with my old gt 440 from galaxy to see how it goes ..but I think it will run it..
  4. Your graphics card is somewhat less than the recommended for D3:
    http://us.battle.net/support/en/article/diablo-iii-system-requirements

You might want to look at one of the newer 28nm based cards since they require less power.
Something like the 7770 would do the job. If you prefer Nvidia, look at the GTX550ti.

Plan on spending $50 or so for a quality 500w psu.
My short list of quality units would incluce Corsair, Antec, Seasonic, PC P&C and XFX,
DO NOT go cheap on a psu for a host of reasons.
  5. So i do need a new gfx card , should i get ddr5 1gb ram or 2gb ddr3 ram? i want something i can run d3 on high settings for long time w/o upgrading....they said minimum is geforce 7800, but i have a 9600 and its pretty crappy....i think it might be my psu...but idk

    any1 else know?
  6. ok http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150540

that product seems really nice to use...i think i like this one...but i saw this for lil bit more and was wondering if it was worth it http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130652

im jus wanting to make sure i buy something that i can play on high/ultra settings when the xpac comes out so im not buyin new cards back to back...

which 1 do u think i should get? thanks..
  7. the 550ti and 6770 trade blows depending on the game. the 6770 is a better buy.
    or get this one:
    Galaxy 55NGH8HX4UXX GeForce GTX 550 Ti $119.99

  8. No don't get the 550ti - it's way too expensive for the performance you'll get. The HD 6770 will max out Diablo 3, but your $150 is probably best spent on an HD 6850. Also you can get a decent PSU for $45 on Newegg.
  9. hmm, i checked out the http://www.bestbuy.com/site/XFX+-+ATI+Radeon+HD+6770+1GB+DDR5+PCI+Express+2.1+Graphics+Card/2293037.p?id=1218320074686&skuId=2293037&st=Radeon%20HD%206770&cp=1&lp=1 and it says requires 500 watt supply...

hoping to get a card to run on a 400-450..but if 500 is a must then i will...

is pci express 2.0 the same and fit as 2.1 or 3.0?

    a 6770 is better for D3 than a 6850, i know shocking . . .

BUT it should be better in other games.
  11. hd 6770 is prob what i will get...gotta get a 500 watt supply now...hope 500 arent more expensive than 400-450 watters

Nah, that "500w PSU required" is horsefeathers. Watts don't matter as much as the amps on the 12v rails. That's the figure you should be looking at. The HD 6770 is very low-power. And the Antec EA-380D easily powers its big brother, the HD 6850. Tom's Hardware's $500 build used to use that combo. A $45-50 80+Bronze PSU with >30amps on the 12v rails will do nicely.

  13. I'm looking at the same cards. So if I can spend the extra 30 bucks and get the HD 7770 over the 6770 think it's worth it?
  14. I'm currently looking to upgrade my pc to play D3 as well.

    I have a HP Pavilion a6530f.

Will this PSU and graphic card be compatible with my system, and will that be enough for me to play the game comfortably?

  16. @Duckhunter and pcnut88, start your own threads.
  17. Does the high end graphics card really make a huge difference than the GT 440 in texture, shadow, FX or is it just FPS difference?

Show me pictures/videos comparing 440 to those higher ends ones.
  18. Now I only have intergrated Intel graphics card, maxed out looks like this

Wondering if I should bother upgrade to see much better graphics. If so, please show me comparasions.

Someone show me 440, and also 550 ti and the 6770 that was recommended here.
