Got another bill for phone service at the old apartment today, which was supposed to be turned off already. Just called them, and asked what was up. They said "Oh, OK, we'll cancel the service and zero out your account."

That's nice and all, BUT....all they asked for was the name and number. No other identifying info. So, WTF? That mean ya can just pick somebody out of the phone book, call phone companies acting like you're that person until you get the right company (which wouldn't be too terribly difficult; i.e. most folks here are BellSouth, and there's only so many LD companies), and have their line turned off?

Psst, hey RC, who's your phone service provider?

Sometimes I wonder.. It seems like a pipeline to sales gimmicks & calls.

My cell doesn't get any of that!!

I think I have only gotten one telemarketer call on my cell phone. I did get one call the other day from my credit card company telling me that they hadn't received my payment yet. I told them that my wife had sent the payment recently, but we were in the car and didn't have the documentation... She asked if I could send the previous payment and the current payment today. I told her again we already sent the last one. She said since they hadn't received it, they wanted two payments... Then, we went into a bad cell area and the call cut out... Oh damn, too bad... They didn't call back...

 I HATE NET NAZIS!!!

My first eftpos card was canceled on ym by another person LOL

----------------story-------------------

i was 9 years old, legally i wasn't allowed to do a paper run till 10, but hey i got one, i needed a way to get money from the bank so i wanted an eftpos card.

anyway you arn't allowed one till 13 so my dad signed a thing letting em get one.

i put it in my pocket and didn't use it for about 1-2 months.

dad took me down to the bank machine to teach me how to get money out of my bank account and which buttons to press.

INSERT CARD HERE-----

the card goes nicely in, then the machine promptly puts up a message saying

THIS IS A STOLEN CARD.

MUNCH MUNCH MUNCH goes the machine on my card

i go into the bank some time later, they say, Oh you canceld your card the other day. to which i say NO I DIDN'T.

well we have a log here saying you did, but heres your new card anyway.

not an issue really except that obviously someone rang up to report a lost card and accidentally gave the wrong card number or somthing.

they mustn't have had any id checks or anything performed.

i was to young to be pissed off, but if it happened now i would be LOL
