I'm wondering why can't anyone just purchase the reference cards from Nvidia or AMD - you know the reference style cards. For example, the gtx 580 nvidia reference looks alot better than the evga one - why can't people have the option to buy graphics cards directly from the company? Not that I'm interested in a reference card myself, but just wondering...

Well that is just the way things are. As being an electrican it would be the same thing and me going to the producers of the products and buy direct instead of going to the middle man or the wholesalers.

The middle man/wholesalers run buffer from the public. That way the producers can just concentrate on making the product. It is what it is thats the way everybody makes money.
