FX 8120 problem

Hi, i recently foolishly used the ATI overdrive feature on my old system and screwed the motherboard, which i have now replaced. However its not all fixed. When i use my FX8120 (which i had installed during the overdrive) my pc powers up, but no beeps, no bios, no nothing, and yet the CPU does get hot so it must be doing something. When i use my older Athlon 2 x4 640, everything is fine. The motherboard is a Gigabyte 990FXA-UD3, and does say to update the BIOS for the FX series, which i believe i have done successfully, as it shows im running FE version which from what i see is the latest version.

I was just wondering if i could get some input as to what might be wrong and some help, i dont really want to get a new CPU for the sake of it, to find my current one should work.

More about 8120 problem
  1. Double check your BIOS version. (I have never heard of FE)

I think you need F5 our higher to run the 8120.

If you have new-enough BIOS and the Athlon works but the 8120 doesn't, the 8120 is bad.
  2. Make sure you have the correct revision of the board when selecting BIOS! FE is for revision 1.2 http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4001#bios all other revisions listed under board name.
  3. My board is revision 1.2. I've tried all the previous versions and the same happens, the Athlon CPU is fine, but the FX nothing happens, no beeps, just fans. With the FX installed, the temps just keep rising above 50 in the heat sink, whereas the Athlon on idle stays around 30.
  4. Bad FX CPU would be my conclusion. RMA through AMD!
  5. Yea i think so, thanks for the help, just filling out the form now
