Why does my laptop drop internet connection

what would cause my laptop to suddenly start losing connection to my network when other laptops on the same network stay connected?

The signal processing within the laptop. Yes, poor signal. A failing antenna will cause this.

It could be a new wireless card or it could be a new antenna.

One way to check the wireless operation is to try and connect at a public hot spot such as a library, college, airport, etc. - If you have the same dropped connection it confirms that the wireless circuitry inside the laptop is questionable. It may not be limited to the wireless card or the antenna.
