Is 600w enough for my build?

I am building my first pc (This is also my first post on the forum) and I need some help. Every power supply calculator the I try is having very mixed results. Along with forums on the internet seeming to say different things and I need a definite answer.

Here is my build-

600w corsair power supply
GTX 470 GPU
intel i5 2500k CPU
ASUS P8Z77-V LK Motherboard
2x4 gb corsair vengeance ram
And an old dell hard drive and dvd-cdrw from another pc, I will be upgrading the hard drive when the budget allows.

My question is, do I need a better power supply? Or not? I have seen people saying that 600w is fine for even more stuff, and I have also seen people saying that that is not enough for even less stuff. Then I have the Extreme PSU calculator saying I need 678w. And Newegg's calculator saying only 542w.

I figure someone on here would better know from experience than a website. Do I have enough? Will it be risky? If so, how much do I need?

Hi !

Lets make a little calc

Your gtx 470 can peak 242W with someOC.
I5 2500k its 95W lets make it 105 With some OC

16W ram
15W Hdd
15-25Dvd

242+105+16+15+25=405W

U have 600W so its all enough :)

Hi - as you've already discovered from Bret's reply and prototype's calc, these PSU calculator's tend to inflate the actual
wattage need. Generally, if you are not going to CF/SLI a 600w quality unit is more than enough.

Thank you guys. I had a 750w all picked out and was worried I would have to break what was left of my budget this month. Here is hoping the rest of my first build goes well.
