If you can find a Z68 board, get it. Z77 is a waste without an IVB CPU.

I managed to find these two:

Gigabyte GA-Z68P-DS3 Motherboard - $95

Gigabyte GA-Z68AP-D3 Motherboard - $110

Which would you recommend, if either?

You mentioned cost cutting : 1280 x 1024 resolution u can get by with a far simpler/cheaper rig unless u looking to upgrade display
