Acer 3620 battery not working

my acer 3620 laptop battery is not reading. The green light for it is lit up in the front of the laptop. i go to power options and its saying not present. help!!!! very frustrating... i'm thinking it may be a few things thats causing this problem, but i'm hoping its none of those. any tips?
