It is time to upgrade and I want to take advantage of Black Friday sales. My main interest is gaming. On a much lesser priority, I might do video editing but maybe not since I have a mac for that already.

My current setup is an intel core 2 dual 32 bit procesor with an MSI board that I dont remember the number, Nvidia GTX 260, and 4gb of ram which will probably get upgraded because I think they only run to 1066.

I am keeping 750 corsair power supply, thermaltake Amror MX ATX mid size, 2 monitors HD LED 24".

I was reading articles and I was thinking of this set up.

1) Intel Core i7-3820 Quad-Core Processor 3.6 GHz 10 MB Cache LGA 2011

2) ASUS Sabertooth X79 LGA 2011 Intel X79 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

3) EVGA GeForce GTX 660 SUPERCLOCKED 2048MB GDDR5 DVI mHDMI DP Graphics Card

4) Corsair Vengeance 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 1600 MHz (PC3 12800)

I have been reading some articles and I am not sure if this is a setup that will survive for about 5 years. Should I be getting something newer? I am interested in spending less than $1000. Is this too old school? Do i need to read more articles and find newer stuff? :)  Also, I am not into overclocking, so I dont need nothing special for such. my main worry here is the CPU and MOBO. The rest can be adjusted :p

For gaming, i7 3770K is more than enough (even an i5 3570K is good enough).
You should think about getting GTX 670/680 OR HD7970. Coz that's what matters in gaming the most.

Based on your advice, this is the change I will be making then,

1) Intel Core i7-3770K Quad-Core Processor 3.5 GHz 8 MB Cache LGA 1155 ( 4c/8t )

2) ASUS P8Z77-V PRO/THUNDERBOLT LGA 1155 Intel Z77 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

3) EVGA GeForce GTX670 FTW 2048MB GDDR5 256bit, Dual Dual-Link DVI, HDMI, DisplayPort, 4-Way SLI Ready

4) 4) Corsair Vengeance 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 1600 MHz

I am choosing that MOBO because of the Thunderbolt since I do have a MAC for work and it will be good to have the similar technology. I like the WIFI too but not sure if that will be able to replace my wireless router.

So just using amazon for pricing this looks like $973. I am still open for more suggestions, speacially on the MOBO too. Thanks in advance.
