Having problems installing ati radeon hd 540 graphics card

i recently bought an ati radeon hd 5450 graphics card from amazon and i checked to see if my computer has the right pcie slot which it does (pciex16) but when i turned my computer on the screen stayed black untill i turned the computer off again and plugged the monitor back into the intergrated graphics card.

In bios is the PCIe set as primary display device? (newer boards usually disable onboard with a discrete card installed)

If you don't know how to get in your bios, you probably shouldn't be installing ANYTHING in your computer.

Hit delete repeatedly on boot up, that will enter bios.
