Hey I built my computer the other day specs:

GIGABYTE GA-970A-D3 AM3 AMD 970 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard

AMD FX-4100 Zambezi 3.6GHz (3.8GHz Turbo) Socket AM3 95W Quad-Core Desktop Processor FD4100WMGUSBX

SAPPHIRE 11188-22-20G Radeon HD 6950 2GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card

G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16GB (4 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model

Western Digital Caviar Blue WD5000AAKX 500GB 7200 RPM SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive

SAMSUNG 22X DVD Burner SATA Model SH-222BB/BEBE - OEM

Upon building and beginning the startup, I inserted the motherboard disk and began install. Following a freeze at "reboot" or "backup" (I dont remember exactly what it said), I restarted the comp. After gigabyte boot, I have a black screen with "loading operating system..." Because I'm pretty illiterate in such matters I was hoping someone could help me out, I did some searching and I believe it has something to do with the Gigabyte BIOS. Suggestions/answers?

If you can get into the BIOS, post what your default SATA-0 and SATA-1 drives are. Your primary HD should always be hooked up to SATA-0, and your optical / storage device should be SATA-1.

Reset the bio on your mobo ( look in the book it will show you how )

Or try to reboot and hold down the del key ( and reboot with a differnt bios config or set it to opt delfaults .

The solution for me was just to make sure my external USB drive was unplugged or turned off before booting.
