Hello all, me and my brother are going to be purchasing components to build our gaming PC's next week.

He has a budget of £430, I have a budget of £700.

He has an OS, Mouse and Keyboard, Monitor and Case.

I have an OS, HDD, Mouse and Keyboard and Monitor.

Could I please have some assistance as I'm new to this, I've had a go at selecting parts anyhow!

Would this be good for my brother?: Budget £430

MOBO: GIGABYTE GA-Z77-DS3H Intel Z77 Socket 1155 DDR3 PCI-Express Motherboard - £71

CPU: Intel Core i5-3450 3.10GHz (Ivybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor (77W) - Retail - £145

GPU: XFX Radeon HD 6850 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express - £89

RAM: 4GB Mushkin Enhanced Silverline #996768 (2x2GB) 1333 (PC3-10666) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM CAS 9-9-9-24 1.5V - £26

PSU: Novatech PowerStation Gaming 500W Silent ATX2 Modular Power Supply - £42.98

HDD: Seagate Barracuda 500GB 16MB Cache Hard Drive SATA 6GB/s 8.5ms 7200rpm - OEM - £52.98

Total: £426

I'm not sure what would be better an i5 with 4GB of ram, or an i3 with 8GB of ram. Keeping within the budget.

For me: Budget £700. I'm really not bothered by flashy cases either, cheep and cheerful is good for me as long as it all fits and has good air flow.

MOBO: MSI Z77A-G43 Intel Z77 Socket 1155 DDR3 PCI-Express Motherboard - £74.99

CPU: Intel Core i5-3570K 3.40GHz (Ivybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor (77W) - Retail - £175

CPU heat sink: be quiet! Shadow Rock Pro Quiet CPU Cooler £36.95

GPU: MSI Twin FrozR III Radeon HD 7850 OC 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card - £190

RAM: Corsair Vengeance Low Profile 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (CML8GX3M2A1600C9) - £42.95

PSU: 630W be quiet! PURE POWER CM L8-CM 80PLUS Bronze Modular Power Supply - £68

Case: ARIANET StealthX Black Midi Tower Chassis - £32

SSD: Crucial m4 64GB 2.5" SATA-III Solid State Hard Drive - £61.64

Total: £681

There we go, so could you please help me with this and suggest different parts if you believe they will benefit us more.

Thanks!

Just to add we live in the UK and I will most likely overclock our PC's after I have fully researched how if that helps things!

An i5 with 4GB of RAM is better. There are 6GB RAM sticks you can get. They're 2 sticks of 3GB, but if you can't get one, 4GB is good enough. I've also never heard of those PSU brands. Maybe I don't know them, but I'll wait for other commentors to say if they're reliable or not.
