CVS $30 Digital camera (W/ Video). This may be old hat,
but for the technoids:

http://www.edn.com/article/CA629314.html

Article is on 'how did they do it so cheap'.

Has lots of links (& links to links (& links to...)...)
to follow concerning photos of the insides, hacking,
not using CVS for 'processing', other CheapCams ...

I know it's not kosher rec.photo.darkroom, but I hang
out there and thought it was an interesting
milestone in the progress of digital.

How they do it so cheap is to sell you a $10 camera for $30 and then a $0.20
CD for $13.
Almost as good as having a licence to print money.

It works if nearly all of the cameras come back to the store. The first single-use
digicam was pulled off the market because somebody figured out how to modify it so the
pictures could be downloaded and the camera reused, and then spread the info on the
Internet. It was "back to the drawing board" time for the camera's maker.

Even the film single-use cameras are recycled and sold again.
