yea, for that price AMD/ATI is your best bet, and like xtreme5 said. the 6670 is that exact price

If that's your budget then your best bet is going to be the GDDR5 NVIDIA GT440. $69.99 at newegg.com for Zotac's version (It's a decent card but you'll be severely limited by its 512MB of RAM).

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

Here is a 1GB version of the GT440 made by ECS for $78 ($68 after mail in rebate).

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

If you can spend $90 HIS has AMD's Radeon HD6670 in the GDDR5 flavor with 1GB of RAM. (If it were me I'd scrounge the extra $20 to get the more capable 6670).

Does it matter much on which i get, DDR3 or DDR5? I found a AMD ATI Radeon 2GB DDR3 6450. Is that worth it?

GDDR5 has a huge performance advantage over GDDR3 which is due specifically to the higher bandwidth that GDDR5 gives over GDDR3 (you will always get significantly higher frames per second with a graphics card that has GDDR5 vs. one with 3).

If you plan on playing any video games I can not recommend anything less than the nvidia GT440 with GDDR5 or an AMD Radeon HD6670 with GDDR3. If you look at Tom's graphics card hierarchy chart the Radeon 6450 is four tiers below the GDDR5 GT 440 which is already incredibly low on the list to begin with.

Here is the hierarchy chart, it is an excellent reference to easily compare video cards: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gaming-graphics-car...

But only if you have a GPU that can use that power. I believe I was in a thread the other day where the 6670 was faster then the 440. The DDR3 6670 might be faster then the DDR5 GT440. Do some digging to make sure, don't just buy a card because it has X stat over the competition.

I agree 100% with what you've said but memory bandwidth can still close the performance gap between a faster GPU with slower memory vs. a slower GPU with faster memory.

I can't find any specific benchmarks of the DDR3 version of the 6670 vs. the GDDR5 GT 440 but if page two of Tom's "Best Graphics Cards For The Money: May 2012" is any indication it would seem that the GDDR5 version of the GT 440 is faster than the DDR3 6670. Still neither card is going to be as fast as the GDDR5 Radeon 6670 which again is the lowest card for gaming that I'd personally recommend.

Not really. Hop on your 21 speed mountain bike. (GPU) Then get on the freeway. (memory bandwidth) Does the 65MPH speed limit help you peddle any faster? Like with harddrive transfer speeds just because the lane allows you to go that fast doesn't mean you will.

I know this is a benchmark for only one game, but it does show the DDR3 6670 faster then the DDR5 GT440.

Not much faster I agree and I'm sure you'd never be able to feel the difference if you had both. That might be why they are a tie in the best for money.

It's a "bug" in the forum software. Lots of us have that as our join date simply because we were here before they loaded new forum software if my memory serves.

Edited for spelling

if you want good performance then indeed gtx550ti is better option with GDDR5 technology which around $119.

Picking a best answer doesn't really change anything. And just because someone with no picks one doesn't mean he picked the best one. (no offense to OP or anyone who answered. Just saying.)

Note that I said can still close the performance gap. I know how bandwidth works in relation to utilization by the GPU, that's very basic but what I was saying is in the value segment small changes like different memory systems will affect the performance but how much it does depends on the game (as I'm sure you know). As for the diablo benchmark, that goes to show it's not memory dependent. If I could find any relevant benchmarks where the 440 and 6670 directly faced off (all the ones I've found use the GDDR5 6670) then we could close this but I'm fairly sure the two cards that we've been talking about will each likely have certain titles where they excel depending on if the game needs memory bandwidth or raw processing power.

That gigabyte card is so cheap I'd have to say that's the one to get, $40 after rebate? Craziness.

Figured it'd be something like that, interesting glitch - goes to show just how long we've been here I guess haha
