Excellent performance for a reasonable price?

I am looking for a new graphics card for my new system, cut and dry its a core i5 3570 with 16 GB of ram on an asrock z77 extreme.

My question is: I want a video card that will give me high fps playing Rift and movies in HD. But everywhere I look the one I want (the GeForce GTX 680) is sold out or overpriced.

What card could I go with or pair of cards to get the performance I am looking for? Note the Radeon 7000 series don't mesh with Rift so they are out of the question.

The Max I would like to spend is $400.00

Go with the GTX 670 like I did. It beats the 7950 and, imo, matches (or almost matches) the performance of the 7950.

Yup like recommended above, GTX 670 is currently very strong and very good performer. GTX 670 vs HD 7970, the chart will do the talk;
