is ECC RAM like a disadvantage though? like is it more expensive?

Okay, I will give a short explanation then :)
ECC "corrects errors" and is mainly used in servers or mission-critical machines. It's usually more expensive and actually cuts back on performance. If you're a gamer or home user, then non-ECC is the way to go.

Normally more expensive, slower, and more accurate. Mostly used in servers and high end workstations for scientific calculations.
