The only thing changed from the stock model is change of HDD, same brand simply lower capacity due to first one dying.

I looked around the forums already and got the impression that my best option was a 5770, from someone who asked a similar question, but I want a second opinion.

Without knowing the power supply can't really help, likely you'll need a new one.

5770 is discontinued and replaced by 6770. 6770 is discontinued and replaced by 7750/7770.

A 5770 isn't really an upgrade from a 4850, they are really close.
