"Transmeta up on buyout speculation"

"CS First Boston floated the idea that the microprocessor
maker would be an attractive target for Advanced Micro Devices.

"A long shot...maybe," he said. "While this is really
just an idea we thought up on a dark, rainy San Francisco
winter night, we believe it is enough of a possibility
that investors should be prepared to understand the impact.""

Does TMTA really anything have that anyone would want
to obtain prior to the final bankruptcy sale?

My sense is, not much, because TM has made it pretty
clear for some time that they've needed a white knight
to ride in and save them. No hoofbeats are heard in the
distance, so far. Today's rumor doesn't even rise to
the level of a proper rumor.

Based on the Efficeon and Crusoe reviews I seen, any
advantages that TM's technology may have (e.g. power)
are offset by compatibility and performance concerns.

Probably the volatile flash market would be more profit-generating for
them than a Transmeta buyout would.

Nahh, AMD should just dump both processors and flash and buy up a
toilet paper company and try to sell that as "Computer sanitary
wipes".

It would probably be a smarter move than buying Transmeta and would
probably make AMD a lot more money.

Or, to put it bluntly, why in the hell do you think anyone at AMD
would be so stupid as to buy up Transmeta?!?! If anyone in AMD
actually suggested that I would hope that they would be laughed out of
the office... either that or simply canned!

So would cleaning out septic systems. I never saw the point behind
Transmeta, and "never" includes the time it was being hyped before it's
unveiling. What a waste of talent. Interesting concept, bad product.
