I'm looking to get on the tri monitor wagon soonish. I have a gtx470 running on the same board as a q6600 :S so I'm upgrading my entire setup.

What I'm having trouble with is should I get another 2 gtx470's or go all the way and get 3 gtx 570's?

I plan running them on 3 24" monitors at 1080 on each, and I wanted some decent frames on games like skyrim, maxed.

Am I living in a dreamland? Do I NEED 580's/better?

Fact, I'd be interested to hear if I can improve my planned setup with a budget of $2500 (im in uk). I'll skip the low cost components.

- 3 24" monitors (around $750)
- 3 gpu (around $1000)
- OCZ 850w (around $150)
- 120gb SSD (around $150)
- i7 2600k (around $400)

I know this is probably not what you are looking to hear, but if you are upgrading your 'whole system' anyways, ATI's eyefinity solution is much more 'ready made' and works quite nicely.
Getting, say, 2x 6950's and 2 peripheral 24" LCDs with a center 27" LCD, and you have yourself quite a nice setup.

I am still running a q6600 myself, with a single 6950. I haven't tried crossfire with this card, but eyefinity works just fine. You would certainly have to lower some detail settings...
