When Would Be A Good Time To Upgrade?

It's only been about a year since I got this computer, although I may get a 7870 over my 6870 I'm thinking about a whole new computer. My CPU is a AMD FX 8120 @3.3GHz and when should I upgrade to where I see a major performance increase?

  1. can you overclock?

Tom's recommends don't upgrade unless the new parts are 3 tiers higher than the current parts. Check the hierarchy charts.

So my GPU, my CPU is fine?
  3. Depend on your monitor resolution..

if you running a 1080p HD monitor, upgrading from 6870 to 7870 will be a significant upgrade..

But your cpu is fine..just try to overclock it t gain more performance..
  4. Well you could upgrade both if you went with an entirely new system. Like Intel CPUs at top of the hierarchy chart then picked any GPU at or above either 7870 or 660ti
