Before you install the Heatsink w/ thermal grease, do you clean off your cpu die with alchol or just take it out of the package and make sure you don't touch it? I'd rather not clean if it I know it is clean, but if you think its best, I'll clean off the cpu. Also, does the same thing apply to the heatsink?

They should all be clean so just avoid touching them. I suppose u could wipe with cotton or soft tissue. Alcohol or other appropriate solvents to remove the oils if you think they are.

As for the heat sink, u can prepare it like this if it doesn't already have TIM (Thermal Interface Material) or if u want to replace the it:http://www.arcticsilver.com/arctic_silver_instructions.htm

Some additional tips:
Only install the cpu in a room that is sure not to contain any static. You'll need a faraday cage for that (I usually mount cpu's in a lions cage at the local zoo for that purpose). Further more, you should seriously consider doing that in a clean room, to avoid dust settling on the CPU or HS. A zero gravity environment could also be a good idea, not sure why, but just to be sure; therefore, save your frequent flyer/airmiles to get a trip on the next space shuttle. One can't be careful enough..

You guys forgot about viruses!! I always wash new chips with lysol, then soak them rea good in ether.

(note to newbs, this is a joke. Computer viruses can not be spread this way)

You still should make sure to ground yourself to the cage and the pc and not wear synthetic clothes. An oxygen mask would also be recommended.
