The scanner manufacturer might be able to offer you a driver solution for free. Get in touch with them through their web site and see if they have driver available for download, or a CD.

"Is there any such thing as a free driver?"
This is all dependant on how quick the taxi drivers in your area can run.

Really tho, 99.9% of all drivers are free, either go to the scanners manufacturer website and find the relative download link for your model and OS.

Alternatively post the Make and model of your scanner aswell as your OS i.e. Windows 7 64 bit and we can find it (or atleast try).

Is there any such thing as a driver you pay for?

Maybe if you told us what this mystery scanner is and what operating system your using we could find a driver for you......since you don't know how to use Google...

If its a low end canon scanner and you are trying to get onto win7 64bit then you've got trouble. If this is the case then ths guy can help, and it does work, but it'd be cheaper to buy another scanner...
