Voice Comms for the Crackers of the Sash?

Who would be interested in using either Teamspeak or Ventrilo for the
Cracked Sash - and if so, which one?

How many concurrent users would we realistically have?

Would people be willing to make a voluntary donation once in a while to
help finance it?

I've checked www.fps.net for price info and a 10 user server for 6
months would cost only £22.50. I would be happy to finance a 10 user
server at least for the first 6 months to see what sort of response it
got.

Discuss.

Hi Necro,

This sounds like fun! I don't have a microphone at the moment but could
grab one to test this out.

10 would be plenty to start with, since it wouldn't really come in to
it's own until those hectic instance sessions, presumably that's what
it's designed for?
So I suppose it's up to the more serious higher level guys to call.

I've no idea how they work, Voice over IP ? What's the difference in
Teamspeak or Ventrilo?

Baruch, Time to think of a battlecry...

Stoneskin,
I posted about this in our forums as all we need is someone with static
IP and a decent PC. that way we can download the client software from
teamspak free.

Are you sure paying for server access is necessary? I think I read somewhere
recently that these VoiceCom progs didn't require very much and that you can
easily run a server and play at the same time, without having a
state-of-the-art super-uber-computer. I'll see if I can find where I read
it.

As long as you have a decent internet connection, you'll have no problem running
a voice chat server for 10 people at decent quality.

to spend any money :)

Yeah, that's pretty much what I've read. I looked for it, but couldn't find
it :/

Well as I don't have a mike, I'm more or less in the same situation as
Jonny.

A couple of guys that work with me have both set up Teamspeak servers.
As others wrote, all it seems to require is a fixed IP address.

This could be funny, although not as funny as tuning into the voice
comm channel of our friends the Biergodenzonen :).

Actually you don't need a static IP. http://www.no-ip.com/ offers a
free program which will update a dns record based on your dynamic IP
address.

I guess it's not needed for random grouping ("hey, can anyone help me
with killing $Mobs"). But it would come handy in instances, especially
in the endgame ones.
So I guess 10 concurrent users should be enough for a while, until we
have enough high level members for high end instances, guild raids or
organized battlegrounds (I'm pretty sure that blizzard will introduce
a feature to go to battlegrounds as a team).

I would.

Thank you for the offer. Probably, it would be best to start this
discussion on http://crackedsash.wildcard7.com, because there are
a lot of people in the guild who don't know about agw (ie Grunter).
