Dell Dimension E521 Video Card Upgrade

I have upgraded my E521 in the past with some good success (now running a AMD 64 X2 5600+, 600W PSU, Geforce 9500GT 1GB and 4GB of RAM on windows 7 home). The problem is that video card is barely surviving diablo 3 with settings on low.

I'm hoping I can install a better video card something like a GTX 550 or Radeon HD 6770, I don't really want to run the game on max settings or play anything as intense as Crysis etc.

The only problem I see right now is a heat sink located directly north of my PCI-E slot that would probably prevent me from installing the newer dual-slot video cards.

Here is a picture of the offending heatsink:

Has anyone had success upgrading this particular dell e521 with a dual-slot card?

Or, can anyone recommend a single slot card that will work well with diablo 3?
I'm looking at this card now:

Thank you for any help!

  1. well that heatsink looks troublesome... but yeah any of the newer single slot cards should run this game no problem. Manufacturer PC are always a pain to upgrade. I have an old dell dimension 9200 and i intended to upgrade, but in the end I just opted for a new build.

Hmmm don't quote me on this but i believe that CPU is a bottleneck for something higher than what you got right now, but im not very familiar with AMD cpus
  2. The case cannot fit a dual slot card unless you take off the rear support plate on the card. If you look at the rear of the case, you will see what I mean. Yes that 7750 will work and play d3 maxed. Even a card like this will fit. (If you want to save $20 and not get dirt 3.)
