[Ancient hardware] Is this a joke?

My PC only has a PCI slot for graphics cards and as far as my understanding goes, the farthest I can ever go is a Geforce 6200, or maybe a Geforce 8400. As you know, these really suck for gaming, at most COD4, and COD5 and Minecraft are playable with decent framerates. Any newer games are unplayable.

I recently discovered this http://www.hisdigital.com/un/product2-580.shtml

REALLY this must be a joke or something
It'd be bad ass if I could get this instead of buying a completely new motherboard.

Would it make gaming possible on a PCI only computer from 2004?

Yeah. A pci slot has around the same bandwidth as a single lane in pci express, which is enough for low-end cards. Although that's not even the best option...

gt 430 in pci. Much better than a 5450 although still bottlenecked somewhat by the interface.

i think you got your money worth out of that pc. what i would do with it is see if your local boys club...school or library needed an older pc that could do web and word. there are a lot of schools that have those older kids typing programs that dont like newer version of word and need older parts/pc to run them. you should be able to take a tax deduction for the donation. use that amount and buy a newer rig.

The rest of the hardware would limit what you could play. You coulnt play modern stuff maybe not even at low settings due to the bottleneck of whatever ancient CPU you have.

To answer your question, no, it wouldn't make things any faster. The Radeon HD 5450 and Geforce GTX 430 are both very low end cards that are not really very good for gaming even if you had a newer processor and a motherboard with a PCIe x16 slot. You would be far better off to save up your money for a little while and upgrade to the current technology. That means new CPU, RAM, PSU, GPU, and Motherboard at the very least. You would also most likely need a larger hard drive and possibly an optical drive and a new case. Post your complete specs and then we can suggest what you need to upgrade the most and what you could possibly reuse. I suggest using this format: http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/261222-31-build-advic...

I mean of course they are low end cards, I'm using a freaking geforce 6200! Also my CPU isn't THAT bad it's a Pentium 4 3.46GHz. The geforce 6200 has only 350Mhz core clock, versus 650 with this one. I'm not asking for anything crasy, I mean everything is better than this 6200... I don't care for graphics, that's what my PS3 is for. and on many games, like COD4 I chose performance over quality for a clean locked 60FPS.

I'll go ahead and get the GTX 430 at only 47$ much cheaper than buying a whole new motherboard. Thanks
