It's a bad question because there are a lot of High-End CPU's that cannot be directly compared.
If you want a great desktop CPU that overclocks well, then the Intel Core i7 3940K is the best option but i can't comment on server CPU's.

AMD Buldozer is not even in the running, the FX 8350 is faster than the 8150 and is not in the running either.

Actually my processor is the fastest, my good ol' AMD Duron 900 (yes 900mhz ) :lol:

Anyways try taking a look at this, it doesn't point out the best processor but kind of groups them into categories.

This one right now is easy - it's the i5-3570k. You'll find that all around the forums.

It's cheaper than the i7, but the only difference is that the i7 has hyperthreading that games don't use.

Yes, there are Xeon processors that have more raw power, but due to the restrictions on the rest of the build, their heat and power draw, and the fact that basically no game uses more than the i5's 4 cores...
