6 pin PSU connecter to older 4 pin CPU Motherboard

Hi Everyone,

I am trying to update my HP computer with a ATI Radeon HD 6850 that was gifted to me. My motherboard is a M2N78-LA (Violet3) motherboard. http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01...

I had a 300w power supply which I knew would not cut it so I got a Silverstone op650 PSU.

The PSU has a 8 pin CPU power connector but my Motherboard has a 4 pin slot. I have Googled around and have not found an adapter for this. Can I use this PSU?

I have not checked but will the large 24 pin ATX connector be the same?

Thanks in advance,
Victor

The 12V CPU connector on that Silverstone PSU is a 4+4 pin connector from what I can tell, so it should just split into two halves and you can just use the half that fits.

Even if it wasn't a 4+4, you could still just only plug in half of the 8 pin connector. It would still work the same.

As far as the 24 pin main connector goes, it should be fine.
