How to make my computer BF3 compatible?

Hi all,

I have read the forums here, and while i don't have a lot of computers knowledge it helped me a lot.
So i decided to get some more specific help for me.

I have a quite old (~6 yr) computer, although it runs good i can't reallt play BF3 on it, and i wanted to ask if i should just replace some components in it or is it time to buy a new computer? (i saw people wrote that the Ivy bridge has some heat issues and maybe it's best to wait for the next bridge - whatever this bridge is..).

my specs are:
- CPU: Intel core 2 quad Q6600 @ 2.4GHz
- MB: Asus PK5C
- PSU: HEC 500td-tf
- GPU: nvidia GeForce 9400 GT
- 4 GB RAM DDR2
- 2 optical devices
- 2 HDD - 1. WDC WD5000AAKS-65YGA0 ATA Device
2. WDC WD10EARS-22Y5B1 ATA Device

You don't need IVY bridge processor to play BF3,As according to you Sys specs you can play bf3 fine

BF3 uses multiple CPU cores, thus, i also say you are fine with your CPU in this particular game. But you can think about upgrading your GPU and ALSO PSU (never heard of that brand before, imo you shouldn't trust that)

thanks so much for the replies (for some reason i didn't get email notification so i haven't noticed there were replies till now).

i have win 7 64bit.
to what video card should i upgrade to your opinion? one that will allow me to run the game in high quality.
and what PSU should i get? or more importantly of what walt?

another thing - what is Ivy bridge in a nutshell?

Ivy is a new CPU architecture from Intel not compatible with your mobo so don't worry about it.

Which GPU I'd say at least a HD7950 if you can afford it and probably a new PSU.

Can you tell me what is the equivallent to this GPU in the nvidia design? and what cheaper alternatives are recommanded?

660 Ti to 670 would be around HD7950.

Cheaper alternatives are HD7850/7870 and GTX 660.
