Hey guys i am building my first completely new system, and everything is working correctly and it will boot into BIOS. My mobo will not detect my Seagate 1TB hdd. So i put in my laptop's hdd and when trying to boot from the hdd it would beep a few times then it would boot from my disk dive. So then i put a HDD from my really old computer (like 5 years or so) and it will detect that, but also cannot boot from it (in IDE or AHCI). Any ideas guys?

system:
Asus m5A97 board
amd fx 8150 8 core 3.6 ghz
850 watt psu
amd Radeon 6970
16 gb's corshair ddr3 RAM
Seagate 1TB HDD
standard DVD -drive (don't remember off the top of my head)

It is clear that the MB will detect other hard drives and you have made sure that the hard drive is the first boot decice ? It is odd that the computer will boot from the laptop drive and not the others and not even detect the new one. Must be something wrong with the sata controller.

Well, it's possible the board needs a bios update to spot the drive, but probably not likely.

I would not expect an old hardware installation to boot in new hardware, so the old HDD not booting up the comp is not surprising.

Probably just a bad Seagate 1TB.
