My motherboard only has CrossfireX Support...

My M5A97 Evo only has Quad-GPU CrossFireX Support. I know that AMD does Crossfire...

So... does that mean I can't use any Nvidia cards on the board, or does it mean I'll be fine with a single Nvidia card... but multiple Nvidia cards is not happening.

I've always wondered this... thanks in advance.

Yes.
Crossfire and/or SLI only applies to multiple cards. You may use any single card you want.

You can use any video card you want, but your motherboard only supports Crossfire, so you won't be able to use 2 Nvidia cards in SLI.

No. The GTX 670 is just a single chip in s graphics card. The GTX 690 have 2 chips on a single card. It is a built in SLI so you only need 1 PCIe slot in the motherboard.
