I have a bunch of dvi to VGA converters; one of which being DVI-D on one end, and VGA on the other. My others are DVI-I (obviously analog supported) but DVI-D (digital only) does not support Analog. What could this converter be used for? Why was it manufactured.

i was wondering about that too, because i wanted to add a second monitor, and it has only a VGA input but my graphics card has only one VGA output which I'm already using and two DVI-D outputs.
i spent a long time on Google, and finally i got the answer,
some graphics card have a chip that will convert the signal to Analog and send it through the DVI-D output. so when you plug the converter, it will send Analog signal instead of digital.
i have not tried it because i could not find the DVI-D to VGA converter.
