Approximate Purchase Date: about one month from now

Budget Range: up to $850

System Usage from Most to Least Important: Mostly gaming and web browsing

Are you buying a monitor: No: going to use an HDTV
Parts to Upgrade: Completely new system

Do you need to buy OS: working this out. I believe my college will provide me with Windows 7. If not then yes.

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: all my prices for this build come from newegg.

Location: Rockford Illinois

Parts Preferences: by brand or type: I would like to get an AMD video card unless it can be proven that they are crap on silicon.

Overclocking: No current plans

SLI or Crossfire: Maybe in 2 years

Your Monitor Resolution: I believe i can go up to 1600x1200

Additional Comments: I want to get a mid-range gaming PC. I have a list of parts that i *think* will play nice with each other. I would like some help in determining if i overlooked anything in terms of compatibility or if there are any parts i should avoid.

And Most Importantly, Why Are You Upgrading: my current computer is a 4-year-old laptop. I love the thing, but the parts and functionality of it are going downhill so i decided that i would like to purchase a nice, upgradable gaming tower (i dont take my laptop places anyway) and use it from now on.

The newegg wishlist link is thus: https://secure.newegg.com/WishList/MySavedWishLists.aspx?RandomID=718949822617411620120714224330

If that does not work, then my parts are thus:

Case: Rosewill BLACKHAWK Gaming ATX

Power supply: CORSAIR Enthusiast Series TX650 V2 650W ATX12V v2.31/ EPS12V v2.92 80 PLUS BRONZE

motherboard: ASUS M5A97 AM3+

CPU: AMD FX-4100 Zambezi 3.6GHz

Memory: CORSAIR Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB)

Video Card: Sapphire - Radeon HD 7850

storage: SAMSUNG Spinpoint F3 HD103SJ 1TB 7200 RPM

optical drive: ASUS 24X DVD Burner (alternatively, i have a blu-ray drive from a junked fat PS3 that i could install)

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Thank you for the help. I didnt know that the processer made that much of a difference. Ill keep looking at parts as the purchase date gets closer, but you have given me a good baseline.
