Problem with 2d clocks spiking to 3d clocks

MY specs Are below. The problem I'm hacking is that when playing videos in wmp or any other player my gpu spikes to 3d clocks 840/1280 or 500/1280. I've created a profile and change a few settings like the CoreClockTarget , but still doesn't help. I have to disable hardware acceleration on youtube to help but the quality of the videos degrade drastically. I tried using MSI AB but that didn't help on idle clock it is lower but whenever I play a video my temp spikes up by 10-12c. I normally Idle around 40-42c. The question I have is, can anything be done to remedy this problem like flashing a certain bios or anything? It just bothers me to see my gpu hit 54c sometimes from me just watching videos. :pfff:

Hi

Your graphics card is designed to change clocks and voltage when watching videos to maintain stability. The BIOS determines what clocks and voltage to use for Video's (and gaming) so you could edit the BIOS if you wanted and flash the new BIOS to the card, though I wouldn't recommend it.

Is there a way that I can undervolt it then because I installed ati tools a while back before i did a win 7 refresh and it kept my clocks a a low even when watching videos but for gaming I couldn't get it to over clock or use regular clocks at all.

You may be able to undervolt it with MSI Afterburner (Free program). What card is it?

Having said that undervolting shouldn't stop the card from increase or decreasing its clock speed, with most programs like MSI Afterburner when you change the voltage your changing the voltage for the 3D clocks (gaming) not 2D clocks.

Yeah MSI AB allows for voltage change for HD6950's (you may have to edit a .cfg file first though) though like I said it only changes the 3D clocks and voltage...

use ccc's profiles.xml for raising 2d clocks and i would recommend asus gpu tweak then the msi ab
