Upgrading from i3 530 should I buy new mobo?

hey guys,

I have a i3 530 and recently installed a internet filter that really slows down the browser. I was looking at i5 750 or i7 870 on ebay and it seems I can get the i7 870 for around $160.

I don't really have a budget in mind, but would like to get a sizable upgrade so if you think I might still have problems with the i7 relative to my current CPU then I think I'll have to buy a new mobo and suck it up. I'd much rather just plug in the i7 though if it's a decent upgrade.

What would you do in my shoes?

There are no I7 for your socket. The highest you could go is an I5, maybe an I5 760. And those would be hard to find.

I think it would be better to just get an Ivy bridge Z77 board with an I5 3570 or 3570K, depending if you want to OC.

My guess is it won't end at that price though. It may be better performance wise to get a new mobo and current gen CPU i5 for a little more money. I don't know how the i7 compares to that though.
