FSB increase vs actual performance question

Ok. Friend of mine has a 2.0 Celeron 400mhz (128k) on a soyo board running 133sdram. His budget is seriously limited and needs a small upgrade to build on later on.

I was thinking he could buy an ABIT IS7 and uses the current processor and buy some DDR3200 for a 2.8C later on.

He plays Americas Army and Halo on his pc and performance is rather poor. His video is a fx5200. Right now it seems as if he is processor limited on the games.

How much will performance increase going from 133sdram to DDR3200. It should run 266 in dual channel (if im right). Thats double the memory badwidth. How much would performance go up with the added bandwidth?

I'd say it's that Graphics Card. It's VERY poor.

I am aware of that lol. But it did not run any better on my 9700pro. (except on higher resolutions)

All graphics are turned down and everything.

What model is his SOYO board? I think that the issue is with the Celeron. Im not sure about this, but I dont think that you will accomplish what your attempting with that processor. Send Crashman a PM he will be able to tell you for sure.

I don't even think you can run 400fsb celerons in abit is7. many other new boards are like that, though 400fsb pentium iv works fine.

get him to buy a celeron D if he's on a budget. And.. oh yeah.. that graphics card (if you can call it that) :p

Yes I know Celeron = very bad. But right now, this is all we can do. The IS7 wont run it? Im trying to find a way to use his current processor in a newer board and upgrade to a P4c/e later on depending on avaliability.

Abit IS7 CPU chat shows that a 2.0 celeron works. I dont know if there are differences in the two CPU's. Any ideas?

Actually quadrupled. Doubled by the DDR, doubled again by Dual Channel.

BTW, I've been pointing a lot of people on a seriously restricted budget to the Gigabyte GA-8ISXT-FS. It's a surplus Fujitsu-Seimens PC board that's all over the world market now for as little as $32. i865PE, SATA, 1394, etc.

Getting a new mobo would help, but he would have to get new ram as well. He might be better servered by just getting a real p4 like http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=19-116-178&depa=0. Later he can think about the mobo/ ram upgrade, and at that point, he can oc this chip to 150+ fsb(600 in intelspeak). But he raly does need a graphics card.

What will that 2.4A run with 133SDRAM?

Look at it this way. He needs his computer to stay running all the time. I figured a mobo and ram combo would be great then proc later on. He cant affort a new mobo/proc/ram all at the same time. This Gigabyte GA-8ISXT-FS and Kingston Valueram would be great! I think he could just get that now. Any reviews of that mobo. I dont him want to jump into unknown water. He has no idea what hes doing and im his guide lol.

Ok Gigabyte mobo and ram will get him started. He will use his current Celeron and 5200. He will upgrade his Video next (Im thinking 9800pro)then the P4 down the line. Over time he will have a great system to game with that will keep up with newer titles. This will keep a system running at all times and he will be happy in the end result. So long as his computer can keep up with mine LMAO.
