I am stuck with
Compaq Pressario SR5604F
Processor: AMD Athlon LE-1640
as my "school" computer. I want to upgrade the CPU to Athlon 64 X2 5000+ (Hp confirmed upgrade) that is a DUAL core X64 processor. My current LE-1640 is 3.7mhz X32 and I was wondering: is it worth the upgrade? would i need a different version of Vista? (i cant buy new PC ($$$))

Specs:
Compaq Pressario
SR5604F

Processor: AMD Athlon LE-1640

~~~~New Processor: AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+
Native graphics: nVidia GeForce 6150 SE
~~~~New Graphics: Radeon x1300 XGE 512 MB D/D/VO

RAM: Kingston 1GB X2

you need to take a step down to the 4800+ as the 5000+ is not supported according to compaq's site.

Is it worth the upgrade? - We dont know how much you're spending...
Will you need a new version of Vista? - no, but you will need to reinstall.

The 5000+ is only 39.99 brand new, i have the OEM Vista, (only recovery disks)

thats fine with recovery disks. Make sure they work or burn another set. Burnable DVD's do deteriorate over time.
