Hi

I will be ordering my parts for my next custom build within a couple of weeks but im still not sure which graphics card to get. I wanted to get the new 670 but my friend is a bit of an AMD fanboy and is trying to convince me to get a 7970 instead.
Could someone please help me by suggesting which one to get and reasons why?

Thanks

Solution
Actually it doesn't in Techpowerup, Because techpowerup used more games to test on:

But in fact that the 7970 is just %1 percent faster but cost ~$60 more, there is absolutely NO point of getting the 7970 over the 670. Unless your friend are not a gamer and you want to do compute stuff. Which is a different case (the 7970 will be a much better choice really). Tell your friend don't be that much of a fanboy :) tell him/her performance and price matter most OK!

Thanks, I always knew the 670 outperformed it but my mate kept saying I was making a mistake. Thanks for clearing that up with the link.

Well, if you overclock, the 7970 has more overclocking head room, resulting in more performance. It also is orders of magnitude faster in OpenCL and DirectCompute, which is probably why Metro 2033 loves it so much.

If you don't OC, get the 670, if you do, it's a tougher call.

Nah I wont be OC'ing, the 670 will handle the games I play with ease. So no overclocking needed.

I'm suggesting you GTX 670 http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/598?vs=508 That's what I'm getting for my new PC :) GTX has better drivers, use less power as you can see in the link which i gave you.I'm getting this gpu because the games I like are ran better with gtx 670 than 7970 :) and like you I'm not planning on overclocking alot so..get 7970 if you plan on oveclocking alot.. otherwise gtx 670 is worth more than 7970 and it's cheaper :) hope i helped.
