Upgrading Mobos

I'm going to upgrade my PC with a new motherboard and a new CPU . Question, will the new hardware be recognized by Windows 2000 or will I have to reinstall my existing software. I've done this before with win98 with no problems at all because win98 recognizes the new hardware inmediatelly. Any help will be appreciated.

It should work fine as long as you have w2k SP2 installed. Have your drivers disk handy just in case.

It usually works, but I'd recommend you reinstall anyway if you can.

it should work alright as long as you're installing a chipset from the same company. If the old mobo was a Via chipset, and you are upgrading to a new Via chipset mobo, the 4 in 1 drivers are the same for both - no problem. If you are going from an old intel PIII to an AMD 760 chipset, you will probably have stability problems, for example.

You would be wise to reinstall the OS. If you try it without you may find yourself plagued with unexplainable errors for the life of that computer.
