Verizon fios modem slave

Hello,

I have one computer connected to the wireless cable modem for ISP service. I now have a new computer that I also connected to the modem via a wireless connection. When the original computer is powered down, the second computer loses the wireless connection to the modem.

Any thoughts on why this is?

Are you sharing the network connection though the first computer? If you are, that's why. It's a bit like asking why everything goes dark when you close your eyes. If the first computer controls the connection to the second computer, you shut off that computer...

If you want to avoid this, get a Router and connect that to the modem, connect the computers to the Router.
