That Z77 board will be useless with a 2500K, you'll need the i5-3570K. The extra case fan isn't needed until you get your air flow running and see how many mounts and what size mounts your case has.

Otherwise everything else looks good.

Im getting the extra case fan for free so I figured i'd throw it on there haha, why is the board useless without the i5-3570k though? i may upgrade to it, but id like to know why if you could!

Z77 is not "useless," but you don't get many of the benefits (like PCI-e 3.0) unless you have an Ivy Bridge Chip. You can get the older Z68 platform if you're sticking with Sandy Bridge.

i have some room in my budget, do you recommend getting the ivy chip he recommended or going to the z68? the reason i was getting the i5-2500k is that i thought i heard the mobo i listed had some problems with ivy bridge chips on start up, but i may have read wrong :(

It's not totally useless but you lose a lot of functionality. I never recommend splurging on some components if means others get watered down.

Doing both won't alter the cost of the build at all if you go with the recommendations I made. The 3570K is only a $10 difference from the 2500K and you won't lose functionality. The only time you'd have a problem with startup is if, say you attempt to use a 3570K on a Z68 board that doesn't have the current BIOS.

so if i get a 3570K and use the same ASRock z77, it will work right off the bat and ill get better performance?
