My video driver wont update

Hello,
Does anyone know where I can get a free compatible video card driver? My driver won't update, so I need to install a new one.

  1. What is the brand and model of the discrete graphics card or the model of integrated graphics processor, depending on what you're using?
  2. All drivers are free. Since you didn't give us any information whatsoever on what video card you've got, I'll just show you where you can find drivers for both AMD and Nvidia.

    Here are the AMD drivers.
    Here are the Nvidia drivers.

I'm not sure what the name of it is, is says generic video controller. I don't know where else to look. It says it out of date, it has a yellow question mark next to it. I have tried to install other drivers, but it always stops in error.
  4. Are you using a consumer desktop PC like an Acer, Compaq, Dell, Gateway, HP, Sony, ...? If yes, then post its brand and model number.
  5. Man, this stinks. When I downloaded AMD Driver Autodetect, it doesn't stay open. I click on it to open it & it flashes on the screen then goes away. Can someone help me with that?

So you're looking for the latest driver for the ATI Radeon XPress 200M IGP.

What Operating System are you using? Is it the 32-bit or 64-bit version of the OS?
  8. It is a 32-bit

    XP, Vista or 7 ?
  10. Windows XP 32-bit
  11. There is the Driver provided by Toshiba:

ATI UMA Chipset and Display Driver for Windows XP

    Date: December 13, 2005

The reason why the AMD Mobility Radeon Driver Verification Tool failed for you is because it is not compatible with Toshiba notebooks as stated by AMD.

AMD provides a link to Toshiba's website where you need to navigate through the downloads and you arrive at the driver, I posted a link to, in my previous post above.

Thank you for your help. The download went thru fine, but it still says it's out of date when I try to play a game. It's my son's laptop & he plays games thru a program called Steam. When I try to launch the game, it says my driver is still out of date. Is there a better version of the graphics card?

Did you install the driver after you downloaded it?
  15. Oh, haha. I thought it did it on it's own. I will try that & let you know. It might be a while. Thanks so much for your help.
  16. I can't find it anywhere.
  17. When you downloaded the file where did it save it to?

You can search for sa100videoax.exe on your hard disk drive.
  18. Wow, I feel so dumb. Do I go into start & search? I tried that, it didn't work.
  19. The browser you downloaded it in should have a download bar, or download window. The driver will be in there for you to easily launch it.

Also, if you're using Firefox, you can just press control J to open the download window.
  20. Which web browser did you use to download the driver file? Microsoft Internet Explorer or Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox or something else?

Did it ask you where you wanted to save the file to? If it did then try to download the file again and write down the drive and path name so you'll know where its stored.

    It's IE8, I'll try to find it.
  22. Ok, so I guess I did download it the first time. It is still saying out of date. I actually think that is the one I already had. I need to find the most updated. Thank you so much for all your help. Not sure where to go from here.
  23. Is the yellow exclamation mark still appearing beside the display adapter in Device Manager after installed the driver?

Is the actual name of the display adapter now displaying or does it still say it's a generic video controller?
  24. It says it's working properly. It's actually displayed in a different area than the other video controller was. I'm not sure what to do.
  25. I would try deleting the generic video controller entry.
  26. It's not there anymore. This is frustrating. Is there another updated graphics driver?
  27. Nothing more recent from Toshiba.
  28. Oh man, this sucks. I don't know what to do now.
