Hello! I am selling my laptop and it isn't selling, so in case it doesn't sell I will probably make this build. ORR if this build does turn out to be OKAY I will keep the laptop for mobility and build this. So anyways...Say I get a 1920x1080 monitor and I play games like Skyrim and Tribes Ascend. Will this rig? be able to play them? On what settings and what will the aprox FPS be?

IF in case this build is just awful and won't do what I ask, do not bother to "upgrade" it unless you can do so for VERY CHEAP amounts. I already have an alternative more expensive build planned out in case this doesn't work.

Thanks in advance.

The case isn't in here but this build should be much better. You'll be able to overclock this to a good amount. Not too far the stock cooler won't handle it and you...

The CPU you selected is OEM so that means no stock cooler/heat sink/fan. Do you have one already that will fit the AM3 socket? If so that's a good rig you got going. What is your budget?

Ah no, I do not have a cpu cooler. Okay well the CoolerMaster 212 is only 20 bucks after mail in rebates so that'd bring the total to about $460. Still doable I suppose.

So this build is okay?

And my price range is under 500.

Edit: Price range is $850 if my laptop sells, but that's unimportant since this thread isn't for that scenario. So I don't know why I'm posting this edit...

I'd change the cool master GX PSU. It will not pull over 450watts PSU the Power protection will kick in and shut the PSU off (which can be a good or bad thing). You can get a MUCH better PSU for cheaper as well. Check this one out:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139026
CORSAIR Builder Series CX430

Even though it is 20 less watts than the CM GX, it's by far much better, and cheaper.

If you're willing to pay $60 for a PSU this one is better than both of them by far as well.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371030

Antec Neo Eco 520 Watts

Since your budget is 500 let me see if I can pull up anything better.

By the way I can't see some of your components can you give me the names of them i.e your case?

It's built better, has better quality power, and they are made by VERY good companies. You want to stick with corsair, antec, silverstone, the good brands for PSU. By the way you need at least 440 watts of power, 450 cuts a bit short so try for a 500 watt.

That's about 485 rounded. If you can throw in like $10 more over your budget you can get a decent $30 case.

Hello! First off thanks for this.

The optical drive, mine is like $1-2 dollars cheaper I believe.

The Hardrive you listed is better, albeit it is like 20-30 more, so I will think about that.

The motherboard you listed is $5 cheaper, but to my knowledge it isn't as good. So unless you have a reason that it is better, I shall keep the Asus.

Ended up getting the 650W Corsair. Forgot this build was to be upgraded eventually so I want to have Crossfire. With Crossfire I will need more than a 500W, and then I may upgrade again still. So the 650W is good but it is $60...

So with this build the total is...about $525 :/ Alright. So that isn't horrible I suppose.

How will the rig be able to run Skyrim on a 1080p, 1900x1080 screen?

That motherboard and cpu are not compatible.

You want an AM3 or AM3+ motherboard for that cpu.

The asrock motherboard he choose is compatible however and should be fine, but it is not crossfire capable.

MSI 970A-G46 AM3+ AMD 970 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX at $79.99 seems to be the cheapest to allow 8x/8x crossfire.

The optical drive I linked is 14$ the one you linked is 18$. Your motherboard is FM1 and you're CPU is an AM3. Good selection on the PSU, you might be able to go a bit cheaper, but it's good. As for Skyrim FPS you should get 65ish on ultra at 1920X1200 resolution.

http://www.techspot.com/review/467-skyrim-performance/page5.html (for other resolutions).

Skyrim is CPU intensive the 4 cores overclocked will help.

Ah alright. Sorry and thank you for the correction!

You're right, sorry again. Didn't see the one you posted had a coupon for free shipping.

65 fps sounds amazing. I will enjoy that :)

Okay...Now one more question, I think...The 955 I posted isn't overclockable right? The 965 BE here: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103727 is overclockable? And it is the same price as the 955+212 coolermaster. However, I will need a 212 coolermaster if I want to overclock a good bit right? So basically I should get the 965 BE and then buy the coolermaster eventually to upgrade?

Both Chips are overclockable, the 965 is just a better version of 955. They're both black edition meaning they're unlocked. All you have to do is increase the multiplier and supply the voltage as needed. The difference here is that with the OEM 955 you don't get a cooler so you NEED a cooler. For 965 you do get a cooler but AMD coolers are jokes. It's up to you get 965 and wait to OC when you get the CM Hyper 212 evo/+. you can get the 955 and get the CM hyper 212 +/evo now. Just know that the 965 is better. It's up to you what to do next. Good luck :D! Also don't be afriad to ask question ask as much as you like. Better be informed than sorry xD.

edit: the 955 runs a bit hot not sure about the 965. I have the 970 and I'm running at 4.1GHz with a Hyper 212 Evo plus at 35C only.

Hmm alright. That makes sense. I think IF I get this build, I will get the 965 and wait a bit before I OC. Thanks for the help people!
