I used a Vivitar digital camera for years and when I downloaded all my
photos to my new ibook the icons came up all blank.

http://johnw.freeshell.org/graphics/icons.png

They were blank to begin with and I want to know how to add a preview.
Because all new photos that I take and download to my ibook seem to have
a preview icon. Yes I could copy and paste an icon for each file, but
realize that I have hundreds of digital pictures.

Thanks.

This script should do it. Copy the script and paste it into Script
Editor. Save it as an application (not application bundle); uncheck
stay open, run only, and startup screen.

Then all you have to do is drag a one or more files and/or folders onto
it, and they will get preview icons.

GraphicConverter: http://www.lemkesoft.com/en/graphcon.htm

Go to the Convert & Modify command under the file menu, change the
"Function" pop-up menu to "Create Icon/Preview," select the folder you
want, and hit Go. Couldn't be easier! It's a wonderful, wonderful
program.

Agreed, but I'd consider this CM instead:
http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/11532
Which is not only free but creates nicer icons than GC.

Seconded. This is an excellent little utility.

Graphic Converter will let you create previews.

Thanks for the suggestion. I downloaded it and it works great. The one thing
I wish it could do is to allow one to highlight the icon of a containing
folder (or even a folder containing folders of icons, ad nauseam) and have it
traverse the entire structure, updating the icons as needed.
