Forum Wireless Networking : General Discussion Netgear Wireless Router 824V2 behind Switch

Hi. Networking is not my cup of tea which translated means I like it about as much as getting a root canal and tend to force my way to a workable solution.

We have had the netgear 824V2 router for a few years now and recently the 4 ports on back have had some issues. I bought a TRENDnet TEG-S50g Switch hoping I could conect my PC to the switch and the netgear router also to the switch.

I did and got mixed results. Either my laptop could wirelessly go through the router and connect OR my PC could connect but not both at same time. Did not know if I needed a crossover cable etc so thought I would ask the experts here! Thx in advance John

I guess you connected the modem to the switch and connected both the PC and the Netgear to the switch. is that right?

if that is your setup it will not do what you would like to do since you ISP's modem will only give one IP you can only connect with one device.

to use both at the same time you will need a router.

return the switch and buy a router to replace the one you have now.
