Busted Graphics card?

Hello I recently purchased the HD 7950 direct cu II top from ASUS i installed it and everything was fine for about a week then suddenly the computer powered off. turned out my power supply died so I brought a 750W one to replace it, before this point i had been using a Corsair CX500 once i had installed the new PSU nothing happened i installed my HD 7950 with only 1 pci power connector in and the pc booted up but had the bad video card beep code, when installed with both pci power connectors all the fans would just judder then shut off. I have now installed my old GTX 550 ti which is working fine but as i spent £300 on a new card i would hope that it's not broken although im pretty sure it went with the power supply. your thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated

Did you also plug in the 4/8 pin power cord to the motherboard?
