Hello, I recently picked up a new i7 3770k @ 3.5ghz quad core ivy bridge to upgrade my i5 2550k @ 3.4ghz quad. I mainly did it to attempt to livestream 1080P but I also am unsuccessful in that attempt so far for an unknown reason. Anyways to my question: I currently get LESS fps in my regular games with my new i7 by a large amount and its not stable. With my I5 I had atleast 120+ constant, my current build with i7 gives 37/42 - 85 up and down non stable. I cant figure out what the deal would be my current specs are: Nvidia GTX 480, 8gb ddr3 1600 Ripjaw X's, 120GB SSD. I had 0 issues with my i5 prior to upgrade. any ideas? Much appreciated

104C!!!!

You've definitely put the CPU cooler on wrong!

You're killing your CPU!!!!!!

That's why, you're system is throttling to prevent overheating.

did you update your bios? have you checked energy saving features of your mobo that downclocks your cpu during high temps? what are your temps? is your hsf properly mounted?

few ideas off the bat.

Well, bro. Actually, that CPU upgrade was unnecessary, IMO.
However, the i7 3770k is a pretty capable CPU. And, really worth the money.
But, your GPU is holding you back. So, time to get a new GPU as well. For 1080p streaming, I recommend at least HD 7850/7870.

I use nvidia, Im pretty sure I can still switch to an amd gpu tho right? I havent checked bios for the energy saving feature, but I did update it to F9 which is what it needs. Cpu temp with nothing running is at.. 50C turning on xsplit to max out my cpu usage to 100% gives me..

is what its currently at. it goes from 50-90% cpu usage atm. doing nothing just with leeg open and stream broadcasting 1080p *****EDIT***** The cpu upgrade was to livestream in 1080P HD as my I5 wasnt capable of doing so.

Cpu cooler is on just fine idk what the problem would be :/ I latched in the cpu, I used the 4 plastic snap-in corner connecers and made them pop in place and locked it, I plugged in the only plug into the cpu fan area. what could have been wrong :/

Read the guide in my sig.

You could have permanently damaged your CPU.

In fact, I'm surprised the system didn't shut itself off.

indeed 104 c ...more than enough to boil water.

glad my advice about checking your temps and hsf were it.

also since you say the heatsink is mounted properly, do you have your thermal paste spread correctly? as in you cleaned off the old one and used a new paste? if not it could be those damn air bubbles.
