try the newest sony 5.1 setup... the amp is even compliant with 6.1 for some strange reason though ive seen no media for it... 5 150 watt speakers... nice and crisp throughout their range... and a very nice sub... id advise that if you can afford it... youll be looking at over £1000 for the lot... easily ovr £1000 (£1448 from a sony outlet... obviously cheaper elsewhere and out of this country... thats over US$ 2000)

if you want the best I would suggest not buying a "package" deal. rather, pick your speakers selectively. considering things like how loud do you want to be able to play it? will the mains be used for music? what multi speaker setup do you want compared to how many channels the average soundtrack has? do you want to use things like Dolby Pro Logic or keep it all indigenous? if all one particular speaker is going to do is the occasional sound effect, you can cut corners there. it depends on your budget and your likes a package can be convenient. you may consider this package or this page has prices that run the gambit.

just start with speakers you personally really like and just consider what each one will do. one most important element of a surround setup is a good subwoofer, which you may want to research and ask around about. the receiver can be whatever you want it to be, my personal preference is Onkyo. it will mostly depend on the speakers you go with and their power requirements. I think I buy the idea that most mid-range AVR's are equal and unless you want to buy one of the multi thousand dollar models pretty much and upper mid-range receiver will be more than capable of home theater performance.

that's my two cents worth anyway, good luck and congrats on buying a Toshiba TV they look like the ones to go with lately. I plan on buying one of the 42" or 32" LED 3-D ready ones with the 240 refresh rate. not for the 3-D but for the 240 refresh rate.

cheers, erly
