I'm going to be building a new system primarily focused on 3d rendering (3Ds Max etc.) and I was just looking for any tips you guys might have for me.

Depending on which renderer you are using and if you might be using GPU-based rendering i might consider putting a second budget card in the machine- like a GTX 560 or so...
