Looking to build my first Computer

Hey there, this is my first time posting. I plan on hopefully within the next month or so building a good gaming PC, and I was told to come here for some help!

Here's the template from the "How to Ask for New Build or Upgrade Advice" thread.

Approximate Purchase Date: Not sure, possibly in next few weeks or month.

Budget Range: $600-$700 Before rebates

System Usage from Most to Least Important: Gaming, surfing the internet

Are you buying a monitor: No, I plan on using my HDTV

Do you need to buy OS: Yes

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: newegg.ca, or anywhere else that's good.

Location: Armstrong, British Columbia, Canada

Parts Preferences: No preference, whatever is good and inexpensive

Overclocking: No

SLI or Crossfire: No

Additional Comments: No comments

Why Are You Upgrading: I want to be able to run newer games, specifically Battlefield 3

I also have a list of parts a user on Reddit recommended me, so I figured I'd maybe start from it. Here's the list.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  1. A 6850 will run BF3 on med. at 1080p. Spend a bit more, and get an i5 and 6870/560Ti/6950. You'll run BF3 on high/ultra that way.
  2. Awesome, thanks! Are there any other suggestions you would recommend? I do also plan on upgrading as new parts are made available.

The PSU is a bit weak. Get a min. of 500W. A microATX board is good, but for upgradeability, get an ATX. I would also recommend upgrading to an i5 2400/i5 2500/i5 2500K/i5 3570K. I think those would fit within the budget. However, GPU prices will go down soon because of the 660Ti and 660, so wait a bit, and save some on the GPU.
  4. Alright, that's handy stuff to know, thanks. What about the case, would I need a bigger case?
